The Duchess of Burgundy

This wood corbel has been painted in Luco di Mugello, Italy during one of Dario Biagioni’s Patina Toscana classes I attended, using the traditional Florentine technique. With multiple layers and a beautiful distressed patina boasting a deep burgundy, this corbel is inspired by Margaret of York, Duchess of Burgundy (1446-1503).

This wood corbel has been painted in Luco di Mugello, Italy during one of Dario Biagioni’s Patina Toscana classes I attended, using the traditional Florentine technique. With multiple layers and a beautiful distressed patina boasting a Provence blue, this corbel is inspired by the beautiful town of Amalfi.

The Reading Twins

Two clay statues painted with multiple layers of Milk Paint to recreate the effect of verdigris on oxidized copper with an aged patina in the low points. Protected with antiquing wax, these small statues are ideal to stand on a table or a secretary.

This piece is a commission from a returning customer. The base is in Annie Sloan Burgundy, the front and top are dabbed in Barcellona Orange, Tilton and Paprika Red; the firebird is in Emperor’s Silk. Legs in Aubusson Blue, dry brushed in Arles and toned down with General Finishes Pitch Black Glaze. Coated with General Finishes Clear Glaze and then High Performance Top Coat Satin.

Inspired by Frida Kahlo’s house in Mexico City, but also the colors, flowers and patterns frequently found on Provençal table clothes and pottery, this piece celebrates summer with a wink to Italy thanks to the “Rosso di Levanto” faux marble top. It was part of the Annie Sloan Summer ‘24 color challenge.
